Default Headers Installed HELP!!

Ok so I finished my header install, everything is back together. There was a small leak on the driverside. I unbolted the the drivers side header enough to check the gasket. I needed loosen up the cat, and noticed the cat bolts still had some play. Then thought great found the leak!!! I tightend the cat.

Now here is my dilema with the driveside header. I start to bolt the six 10mm bolts back on, took a while to find the bolt holes. I start from firewall, then the bolt up front nearest to the radiator, then the middle 4. All go in no problem, i'm at the last bolt the one closest to the fire wall. It is about 1/2 way in and is getting harder to turn. I eased it in and out, it is easy to turn after I go back in and out by hand. i feel like hooking up the air ratchet, but I do not want the bolt to break. Please give advise I want get it all done.

check the threads on the bolt, you may have dinged a thread,,,If good just go with it, it should be OK, the heads are aluminum so dont force it. How tight is it,, Too tight byu hand, or hard to turn with a ratchet?

raron455:

yeah by hand with ratchet is very hard. The the thread on the bolt is fine. I've taken it in and out about three times now. The hole on the head is not threading out either.

like I mentioned before everytime I take it out, it will scew in easier.

Will look in to a thread chaser, I've never used one before.

also you should really go from the center out to avoid any leaks...definitely look into that thread chaser.

use a thread chaser before you cause more damage to the alluminum head, sounds like the threads inside are tore up already
