Default 02' Z28 Camaro P0420 Cat Efficiency!!!!

Does P0420 depict catalyst failure?, I have 68K miles on my car and this is the second cat to go out, I'm the second owner of the vehicle, 1st owner had cat replaced but IDK if the component was deficient or that the O2 sensor was reading any faults as well. I was checking for VAC leaks. Anyone have this problem I would like to hear your fixes. Thanks.

I've had problems with aftermarket cats just coming apart a few times. One cat I had didn't last 1K miles.. They just arent made the like originals..

I was getting a 0420 code periodically. Found out the GM had extended the warranty on the cats to 120K miles or 10 years. Depending on the in service date of yours, you may be able to get them both replaced for free.

I just did a couple of moths ago.

Call dealer service department, explain the issue and your knowledge of the 120K/10 year warranty and they can check eligibility off your vin.

^^Not a bad idea.

Mines threw the same code earlier this year, I'd put money up that your car has a bad cat, it's usually not an O2 sensor from what I've seen. My fix was simply replacing the stock catted Y with an O/R Y, but that definitely isn't for everyone.

Well thanks for the info guys, btw I love all your F-Bods, pure sex. I'm going to look into the warrant claim, if I'm not mistaken mine is 100k/10yr. I'm thinking about having them replace the cat, and next pay check look for a deletion kit and runnin the O/R Y as well.

I`ve had this code come up too but it was after I installed my headers with hi flow cats , I had to have my rear O2`s tuned out of the system .
