Default rear cover seal install quesiton

can i install my new rear cover seal into the rear cover before i install the rear cover on the back of the block? i noticed that the seal has the plastic white piece in the middle to help line it up.
The manual says to install the rear cover then the seal, i accidentally installed the seal first. I don't want a leak

Just use the white plastic to center it on the crankshaft it worked well for me. Use a little ultra black to seal it to the pan

yeah i used ultra black to seal the rear seal to the rear cover. so now that i think of it the white piece replace the need for J 41476. it seems like if you put the seal in the cover first then lined the cover up using the white plastic as your guide and J 41480 to line you up on the oil pan all should be good

I noticed you guys can by this seal separate, this is how I'm going to order mine from the states with my other gaskets and seals, my local GM dealer (Holden) wants $300 for it as they only sell the rear seal with the metal cover so have to get it all as one piece, will get it separate and do as you guys have just done.
