Default Another Oil Leak Thread.

I have a wet oil pan all the way around with no oil above it.. and the typical leak from the back of the engine where it meets the bell housing for my a4 tranny. No oil on the flex plate so I'm guessing its leaking at the bottom of the rear cover..

My question is, if I pull the pan off and put a new gasket on will I be able to clean up the rear cover and dab the rtv on the bottom of it and get a seal? In short I don't know if the rear cover sits flush with the oil pan, I'm a noob .

Thanks.

The oil pan is flush, all the way around.
You will be able to seal it in the manner you've described.
There are two long bolts at the rear of the pan that tighten upwards into the rear cover. These bolts require IN LB (not FT LB) torque.
Your car looks in great shape, and I'm wondering if the leak is in the front of the pan? I ask this, because the engine tilts rearward, and the leak may be enough, that oil travels all the way rearward, and around the pan.
