Help me pick a cam for my C5 build
So its been awhile since I've been in the all motor LS game but I recently decided its time to do a little work to the C5... problem is when I went to look at cam options I didnt realize how damn many there were these days. Im completely lost and need some guidance. Im a big Speed Inc fan, have there TU1 cam setting on the shelf for my 5.3 build in my t/a. But even they have a ton of options.
As of now the cars pretty much intake exhaust 98 a4 car. My upcoming plans are longtubes, off road x, corsa xtreme, ls6 intake a set of mildly ported 243s im buying, a stock 3.42 center section, and a stall (dependent on the cam i go with). I want a very drivable cam with good street manners but a little thump at idle just to give it some tone. Not trying to light the world on fire and make a ton of power, just want to wake the car up a bit. My main goal is to keep the cars drivability and reliability. Id like to put down about 400-450 wheel but I'm not real hung up on numbers, just enough to keep it fun. I got the t/a for when I really decide to go fast.
Also I should add i have a set of pac 1218 springs, yella terra 1.7 rockers, and Comp 850r lifters im going to pair with this that i had set aside for the 5.3 but since its getting backburned for awhile may as well use what I got.
So what do you guys think? Hook a brotha up cause I'm lost lol

Imo, Cam Motion LS 5.7 Stage 4, (228/232 114lsa+4, Lift .550"/.540") should work well for you need/wants.
The cam has mild cam lobes and the lift will work very well with the PA1218 valve springs, it also has a IVC of 44 and only 2* of valve overlap. http://store.cammotion.com/57-ls1-34...-compression-4
If you want to stick with a Comp cam which SpeedINC uses, then have them do a custom grind 228/232 114lsa+4 with Xtreme RPM(high lift) cam lobes.
Btw, This is also the largest (228/232 114lsa) I'd recommend for you.

99bluz28 is right on target. You can even go a little smaller and make 400+rwhp if you are concerned with too much lope at idle.
a 114 LSA will definately help with that issue.
I am running a 228/234 on a 111 LSA and its a bit too much for my liking. It was in the car when I bought it.
