Default Alternator Wiring

PS pump leaking on my alternator destroyed it but also deteriorated the ground wire and the single 14g wire coming from the alternator. My question is where does the ground wire connect to on the alternator and the car? And what is that single small wire coming from the alternator for?

99 LS1.

Its grounded by the mounting bracket, no ground wire to speak of. The smaller wire is the exiter wire ran from the computer that tells the alt when to charge based on batt voltage. The large wire is the hot wire.

hmm, there is definitely a ground strap in the vicinity. I'll check again tonight. This exciter wire...mine is deteriorated. Is it possible to re run a new wire to save me from trying to solder a new piece to the old wire?
