Default So, How much is too much exhaust flow?

Ok, Ive been wondering about headers and exhaust.... I want to understand their flow abilities, and how much HP is good for a certain application...

How much power are 2.5" True Duals good up to?3"?

What about headers?

1 3/4?
1 5/8?
1 7/8?

Thanks

1 3/4" headers are best for 346-400" motors. 400+" motors can benefit from 1 7/8" headers. Dual 2.5" pipes have the same area as a single 3.5" pipe. They are good to 450 rwhp. Over that, dual 3" pipes are an improvement. Once past the headers, it's almost not possible to have too much flow. LS1s love to breathe. Dual 3" pipes will not hold you back.

Look for the smallest restriction in the exhaust system. Often, but not always, it's the muffler(s). You can't always tell by looking how they flow. Optimum sized primaries and collectors aren't worth much if you stick on mufflers that flow like 2 inch (or even smaller) tubes. It happens often, especially with some big-name mufflers. It's like stuffing a cork in your engine..or a lot like constipation..doesn't run worth a $h!t.
