Default Power Bond Balancer Problem

I tried to install my Power Bond PBU1480-SS25 this week and it wont seat deep enough.

I'm installing it on a bored, stroked LQ4.

The length of the crank snout from the oil pump to the end is 1.280" The depth on the balancer from the bolt mounting surface to the end is 1.415".

So the balance is .135" to long.

I checked and I saw people had some similar problems several years ago.

I'm wondering what people did to solve this problem.

Sending it back to where I purchased it is not an option, I've had it for several years waiting to get to this project.

If I had it machined would it cause any balance problems?

Thanks

When it's fully seated, the end of the crank is supposed to be recessed around 1/8" inside the face of the balancer. Torquing the crank bolt over this "gap" is what holds things together. Put it on and see how your pulley alignment looks, that's the important part...

Pulleys aren't lined up.

The balancer is hard against the oil pump, this can't be right.

Either call them up directly or take it to a machine shop.

The gap you're seeing is maybe a touch long. How far off are the pulleys? If it's off 3/4", your balancer is from the wrong FEAD family. If it's off a small amount, did you maybe put the crank timing gear backwards? Should have the large radius towards the crank...
