Default Cat Question

Does taking the cats off improve the LS1s performance or hurt it? I have heard many people say it frees up the exhaust and adds power and I have also heard that the lack of back pressure hurts the cars power.

You will see some good gains. I think 5-10 rwhp is the norm when removing or gutting the cats.
