Default For your information, and entertainment

I'm looking for plugs, and the convenient sources don't have NGK, so I hit the web. I found a Champion cross reference that says 3013 is the platinum TR55. I want a heat range colder, but apparently this is secret information. On the advice of sparkplug.com techs, I called Federal Mogul. I finally got a human voice after half an hour. I asked him how to decode these new part numbers, and he said "Well, you can't. There is no rhyme or reason to them. I don't know if it was an engineering decision or marketing decision." So I asked for the part number for a colder 3013. Silence. Then "Ummm, hang on a second." 15 minutes later, I had an answer - 3408. The tech had to go pull prints to answer my question!!!!

So, in case you ever need to know, 3408 is one step colder than 3013

Why not just order NGK's from Advance Auto Parts? They normally have mine the next morning for me.

Apparently you have better counter persons than I. I was told "We don't have them. Next?" I usually go to AutoZone instead. But, I can sure ask if they can get them.

Yea, they don't stock them, but can order them. I can't see one store being that much different from another.

It isn't the store - it is the staff that is clueless. If you know what you want and they have it, you are OK. I needed longer plug wires because of the valve cover spacers and needed them now, so off I went. I had read that truck wires are longer, so asked for truck plug wires for a late model 5.3L, 5.7L, or 6.0L motor. I ended up ordering wires from Jegs and waiting.
