Cold start-up noise

Cold start-up noise Got a noise that sounds like a bearing has sand in it. Weird thing is, it only makes the noise at start-up when cold. After about 1 minute, it stops making the noise. Also, it never makes it when starting when warmed up.
I took off the power steering/alternator belt and it did not make the noise. WTF?

A friend listened to it and thinks it might be a bearing. Possible the one on the belt tensioner. The car is loud and we thought is was all exhaust but it could be from the bearing.
