Is it the hose is no longer long enough?

A picture would be great.

If you replaced any of the hoses with cheapy aftermarket versions you may have gotten a version that isn't stiff enough. Or you may need to find one that has a spring inside to prevent them from sucking closed.

I bet 100 bucks you have air in the system. let the vehicle run and keep squeezing the top hose. Start it when its cold with the cap off so you can refill the level as it drops. Do this untill the vehicle reaches full operating temp.

weve done that twice now. The hoses used to not do that when it was in the camaro. Maybe i need to do it again. Also when we pulled the cap off there was suction not pressure on it. I will try to fill again.
