Default Please help: what happened to my oil drain plug?

Hello everyone

I've been changing the oil on my '98z28 with 47,000 miles for about 3 yrs, and recently put a new, plastic washer on the drain bolt instead of the metal one which was sorta worn.

The washers

Today when I changed oil, I noticed the new, plastic washer was smashed flat and may have actually damaged the soft rubber lining inside the oil drain plug. What happened...and is this bad? Do I need a new drain plug?

Close up of the drain plug, not sure if you can see the damage

Looks like you need to order a new plug. That extra piece you added ripped out the original washer.

thanks Venom, I did buy one today for about 3 bucks and change.

should I put in a new, plastic washer?

l'm worried it will flatten out and damage the oil plug seal

you should only use the factory rubber washer and throw away the plastic one. the rubber one seals better as long as the drain plug is factory.
