Why don't people fab up their own Dual systems?
I am just wondering, it seems that everyone is now just buying systems from companies rather then really researching parts and fabing their own systems for half the price. For example I bought the $100 3 inch dual X pipe mandrel bent kit from JCWhitney then I bought 12 inch Dynomax Bullets for like $35 each ($80 total) and then I had a shop install everything with hangers and some bushings like the TSP has and it only cost $120 = Total $300 and it is one of the best duals systems I've seen on cars around my area. I have better clearence then I did with my stock Y-pipe. Also after I finished this project a while ago I walked into autozone only to find that they had 6-18 icnh long and 3 inch wide pipe for like $5-$10(even cheaper). Just wanted to write this thread to newbies so they know that there are more options/ways of saving more money and getting parts if you really research. Cause systems from companies range anywhere from $420-$700 for mandrel bent 3 inch systems or $800-$1000 for stainless steel. Good Luck on the Duals newbies

well for what it's worth i got my old setup fabbed as well...no way i was going to pay 1200 to speedinc for their duals over the axle...i got mine done for half the price...it wasn't stainless though...imo it was better (performance to money)...just wouldn't last as long...no one is looking under your car anyways..

When I had my first system built - which is the Mac system on our web-site - I wanted it all mandrel bent. And I wanted a Dr. Gas X. So I bought all the pieces, bends, mufflers, collectors, hangers, etc.. Total cost was about $300 once it was all shipped - including the mufflers. Then I had buddy of mine weld it up - because I had never welded before at the time - which I paid $200 for. I considered that very fair, since it took him 9 hours to build it...
So, I did it myself, but I got excellent quality pieces and craftsmanship - but it still cost $500 total.. I was very happy with the system though.

The First is the Flowtech and the Second one I used is the Heartthrob.
This is what I would do"
1st don't use dr. gas unless you really love them I think it is kind of a waste of money but they do have good quality.Just my opinion.
2nd find a cheap x pipe maybe one from the top two links then go to autozone and buy seperate 3 inch pipe thats like 18 inch long for like five bucks and take to an exhaust shop that with mandrel bend to the x pipe. or do what I did and buy the heartthrob and take it to the exhaust shop and have them install it with some bushing setup like TSP has on theirs. Any other questions let me know!! Good luck

Glad to see guys trying new ideas out there. People think they can't do it cause they don't have a welder or lift well still you can save a least a hundred or more on parts alone and then take it to the shop for install.

I have True Duals over the axel, and I bought my mufflers and the shop supplied the rest. I have 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe instead of 3, because I don't have the panhard bar relocation kit. The shop even fabbed me up a custom X-pipe. I got mine done for $350. I have aswesome clearence and got it done at a good price.

SteelBallz: Do you have any pictures of your setup? I would really like to see it, as it will help me with routing when I start my true duals in a couple weeks. Thanks!

I had mine done on my 02 Z-28 for $100 because I took some pics of CountryBoy's setup to the muffler shop. They had never done it and had lots of people coming in to get TD's put on, but couldn't see how it all would fit with 3" pipe. I brought the Flowmaster's and X-pipe, plus the pics, and they had me hooked up in a little over a hour.
