Default header install ?'s

Should I get new header bolts or reuse the stock ones. Also where do I buy new header gaskets?

visit our sponsor www.thunderracing.com for a set of GM gaskets. They are by far the best available for the LS1. while you're there have a look at the Stage8 locking header bolts if not the stockers will do just fine.

I reused my stock header bolts when I put in my headers. 1.5 years later, absolutely no problems.

stock bolts are fine but I opted for the stage 8's. Getting the clips in was a bitch, so I left em out, but they sure look pretty! LOL! As for the gaskets I went to the dealership and got some new ones for under $20

Yup, get the stage 8 header bolts, you will not regret it. They look great and if you can get the clips in ( I eventually did after a little bit of a struggle) you never have to worry about them getting loose, but then again most people dont have any problems with them without the clips in. Also, make sure you get some anti-seize lubricant and cover the head of the header bolts with it. New gaskets can be purchased and thunderracing.com or ls1speed.com, and I believe ls1speed.com has the best price for the stage 8 header bolts. Everywhere else has them for $40 while ls1speed.com has them for $30 bucks. Hope that helps and good luck with the header install!

The Bresslin Bolts are pretty cool. About the same price as Stage 8. They are botled into place and then the center of the bolt is tightened.

I saw on SLP's instructions that they say to reuse th eorigibla bolts. So I guess that I just have to get new gaskets. I will probably just go on over to Speen Inc. since they are only about 15 minutes from my house.

You can use the original header bolts but for $30 you can get the stage 8 header bolts and the piece of mind that they are new, wont rust, and wont seize up and get stuck in your block. If you do reuse the factory header bolts make sure that you dont strip them when taking them out and make sure you clean them off and use an anti-seize lubricant on them to make sure that they wont rust and get stuck. Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to make it easier for you in the long run because its easier to replace all the stuff now while your doing your header install than to do it later. Also, if you havent changed your spark plugs and wires yet id do them no and replace them with some nice NGK's and some MSD Wires. Good luck with the install and feel free to pm me if you have any other questions!
