Default MAC headers?

Okay, its time for headers. I have been looking at MAC with the offroad Y. Is anyone running them, and if so what do you think? Does anyone recommend anything else. The MACs are around $450 w/the Y. I would love to spend 1000+ on a nice stainless set, but just can't afford that right now. If anyone has any good ideas let me know.

About 4 hours for me start to finish . If the damn stock stuff wasnt rust welded on , it wouldn't have taken me that long .

MAC's are probably one of the easiest ones to install....
Makes very good power....with tune I'd say at least 20 rwhp....

Do a search on my MAC post, you'll see some coments...

As far as install goes....

After looking at the MACs, it doesnt look like they are LT headers. They look like mid-length. Is this correct?

yeah they are mid length. i have the macs with the ory and love em. mine was a bitch to install tho because of the age of stuff and the rust and bolt-breaking...yeah that part sucks, but you'll be very pleased with the results

Those numbers seem pretty good. But dont LT headers make more power just by design?

Im debating Pacesetter LT or Mac?

Read the exhaust FAQ - MACs make as much peak power but give up 5-8rwhp under the curve to LTs on a given setup.

FWIW, I made 410rwhp/415rwtq on a Dynojet with my old heads/cam through MACs, 3" CarSound cats, LS1 intake and an unlocked Y3000.

Cheers,

Wow, this is the first time ive heard this. I couldnt find the FAQ guess im not good with the search.

My friend said his MACs were great and i thought he was stupid. Maybe i was wrong.

So your saying MAC's give the same peak power as long tubes but 5-8 MORE under the curve. Why would anyone buy anything else if that were the case?

Oh yea how does the y-pipe fit? Any banging or anything?

Y-pipe is great, because it's 2.5 inches. Long Tube header Y-pipes are 3 inches thick. MAC Y-pipe fits very nicely, doesn't bang, and gives a lot more clearance.

I dont' think MAC give you as much HP as LT's, but darn close.....
Certainly I'm willing to sacrifice 2-3rwhp in place of more clearance and better price.
Clearance is very important if you wanna lower your car a bit.
I'll be putting new shocks and lowering springs this weekend, so I need clearance....

I have MAC with ORY (thorugh Borla XR-1 muffler welded in place of SLP resonator) and it sounds great....
