Default Air pump belt squeak?

OK, we have an AIR pump right? If not, I'm such a newb... But anyway, occassionally I'll get a squeaky belt after starting up for a couple of minutes. It stops immediately when the AIR or EGR stops running.

So back on my old 5.0 engine, we just gutted the air pump to theoretically free up a couple of HP. Can this be done on the LS1? I have LT w ORP so I'm not worried about the emissions thing.

Thanks in advance.

The air pump is electric on the ls1, Its under the driver side wheel well/bumper. Your A/C has a seperate belt might be that or check your main belt.

Thanks guys, but this gets me to thinking that the squeaking (its reallly more of a whirring...) might be something screwy with my AIR pump.

Can these things be disabled? Will it even matter if I do?

Is this something new that it just started doing?

All the AIR pumps on these cars tend to be pretty loud, making that "whirring" sound at start up. I've had 3 LS1s now that all did that.

If it bothers you, the system can be removed rather easy. Many people do it.

Its done it for a couple of months, and not every time. It does bug me, although I like to imagine its from a roots blower sitting on my intake... ha ha.

Yeah, just saw the AIR system removal post. Good stuff, may be in my future.
