Default Oil filter change challenging after LTs

I went to change the oil last weekend after getting my Supermaxx Longtubes installed and I had trouble getting the new oil filter on. I got the old filter off no problem with the loop type filter changer tool, but did not have room for the tool to tighten around the filter when trying to install the new filter going the other way. Anyone understand what I mean or have the same problem? What other tools are there to install oil filters? I have one that is more like pliers too but that one just dents up the filter. Any help?

i just get it as tight as i can with my hands and make sure i put some oil on the "o-ring" or whatever the rubber thing is so its not so hard to get off the next time.

I have a cup that fits arout the bumps of the oil filter and you use a 3/8 drive socket wrench and 6" extion the square end or the extion goes right in to the cup. Hope this makes sense. Most auto parts stores carry them.

You really don't need to tighten the oil filter that tight. Just make sure its nice and snug. I've never used a tool to tighten the filter and I've never had any problems. Just make sure to put some oil on the o-ring on the new filter before you install it.

The K&N filter has a bolt head molded onto it so you can take it off with regular socket wrench. Makes it alot easier than using a strap wrench.

Don't use a wrench... tighten it by hand.

Another vote for hand tightening-too tight and you damage the rubber gasket.

I just finger tighten it. Just did it before this post in fact. Did it too the last time and it stays on fine. Not much pressure there.

Like the others have said, hand tight and then 1/4 turn afterwards. Don't use the tools to tighten up the filter, only to break the seal to get the filter off. The K&N filter is good as well as the cup version that goes around the filter. Just make sure the cup version fits the filter bottom.

No tools, just hand tight.
