Angry Rear Main Seal Plate Help

I have built a Gen 3 LS1 From ground up, First initial start up and there was a minor leak in the rear main seal. I have been told I have to use a special tool to align the rear plate up with the crank so that the Rear main seal will lign up and seal. Is there any other way to do this without the tool.

Default

the way I did it was use a feeler guage with grease on it and work the seal on the crank then put a couple of bolts in it loosely just to hold the cover in a rough position then used a streight edge and layed across the oil pan rail (with the pan removed) and made it parallel with the block and also put a dab of grey silicone on the corner where the pan and the plate meet, then tightened the cover, now you can install the pan that is the way I have done them and havent had any problem but BE CAREFUL WITH THE SEAL IT WILL TEAR OR CRACK SINCE IT IS A HARD PLASTIC good luck brian
