Default making an alternator 1 wire??

I have an alternator from an 89 cavalier. I used it to make a custom bracket for my car so I have to use this alternator. No other ones fit.
Now what do i need to convert it to use just 1 wire?
car is a 72 nova w/ LS1
Can I just hook the power lead up to it and leave the other ones off? what do the other ones do besides the volt gauge which i dont have one or need one anyway.

I dont know how far back search is working but there were a few threads about this. What sucks is I cant remember.I do believe you need to have that wire hooked up or else the battery wont charge. It like a regulator, even though it monitors voltage for the gauge.
