shorties/long you tell me
Is it ok if i go with shorties or am i better to spend that extra few bucks and go with long tubes? Now here another thing, are the long tube pain in the *** to install over shorties and how are long tubes on a lowered car?
Oh yeah, how about performance wise?

Forget shorties, you will see barley any gains over the manifold. LT's are the way they go. They slide in easy and tuck up nice. None of the problems like headers for some cars (unless you make the mistake of buying SLP long tubes).
LT headers are a snap to install as long as you have the tools and jackstands. A lowered car's only problem will be with the y-pipe, not the actual headers. This would actually only be a problem if you have a horrible y-pipe and a slammed car.

I asked a guy who installed my exhaust about LT and he said that
"they're pain in the *** and i'm better off going with shorties for better performance and sound and that he had to take my driverside carpet and do mods to the floor to get them on" When he said that i gave him a puzzled look and walked away.

well hes retarted, they take more effort to put in than shorties, but the gains is way more. the high end power tha tlongtubes will give you is incomparable to shorties

FWIW I just finished an install on sunday, no pulling carpet or any mods to the floor, the worst part was having to grind the block tab.
IMO this guy is probably not the one I'd trust to install a gas cap, much less headers

LS1 f-bodies are a snap. I've heard LT1's are tougher, and vettes can be a pain sometimes, but our cars are easy. I'd say do it yourself also. There are TONS of writeups on how to do it, step-by-step with pictures. Check out installuniversity.com and/or ls1howto.com. Seems like there was a writeup on one of those...

The only thing left to do once you put shorties on is want long tubes.

Longtubes or stay w/stock manifolds, period! That being said my Kooks were a 5 hour install by myself in my garage on jackstands! While your at it you can do new plugs and plug wires since you're already there. AND THEY SOUND SO MUCH BETTER......................

He doesn't know what he's talking about. LOL remove drivers side carpet and mod the floor! Besides SLP's, longtubes aren't really any harder to install than shorties on these cars. I had shorties and can tell you they sound nearly identical to stock manifolds. Shorties don't do much for performance either, especially on 00-02 cars.

Go with longtubes. However depending where you live there is the issue of SMOG REGULATIONS
I recently purchased some shorties just for the fact that i live here in California. I do not want the hassle of putting in longtubes and then taking them off. Then there is the chance that you might have to prove that your stuff is C.A.R.B. approved. Longtubes are not since it moves the location of the cats.
Go with long if you can.
