Default Where to put O2 bungs

My exhaust consists of dynatech headers, merge collectors and a 3" x pipe. I just found out that the dynatech collectors don't have O2 bungs on them. I hate to ruin the coating by welding bungs on the collectors. Would it be ok to put the bungs on the pipes before the x junction?

The farther down you put the O2 bungs the more trouble you are gonna have with your O2s. Trust me, it can get VERY aggrivating. My hookers have the O2s mounted on the header, but it is towards the end of the longtube and I have O2 problems all the time. Im thinking about having mine moved way farther up the header to eliminate this problem.

Maybe there is leakage in the exhaust system allowing air to enter the system, which will screw up readings. I don't think distance back is such a large factor if there is no leakage.
