Default Easiest way to get water pump gaskets off???

I have my water pump off and the gaskets are caked on there. Is there any secret to getting these off other then just using a razor blade? It's taking forever and I've only got half of one gasket off.

i think a razor blade is your best bet. i used to pull the head off of my Jepp about every 6 months and i razor bladed it, and then used some emory paper to get the rest off. some carb cleaner might come in handy also. good luck. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

its just a PITA. it took me like 2 hours of strait scraping with a razor blade and some steel wool to get it all off. so have fun.

Die grinder with 3M scotch pad (you will need the soft one, I think its blue, or else you will kill the aluminium). That's what I used until I bought the 2001+ water pump gaskets.
