I have used trans fluid in the power steering fluid on plenty of cars. It will not know the difference. They are both a petroleum based product. However on my trans am since I know it has ps fluid in it I just put ps fluid in it and i usually just have to add a small amount. Most of the times i have run trans fluid it has been after the fluid has been drained and not in a rack and pinion car. But if the guy at the dealership told you then there must be some truth to it.

I've heard the same thing, but it's the kind of thing that's easier to say when you're talking about someone else's car.

What does the owner's manual say? Alot of cars are going to ATF for PS usage.
