HELP! Just installed lt's and car sounds horrible!
Hey guys I just got my SLP longtubes and off road y-pipe on today. I put it on my stock catback. Needless to say when i started the car I was like It sounds all raspy like a Mustang. I talked to the guy that installed the headers for me and he said that if i put a muffler on it would just make the car louder and raspyier. All you guys with ORY how do you do it? I heard alot of sounds on ls1sounds.com and nothing could of prepared me for this! I know everyone says flowmasters suck but I am seriously considering puttin one in to save some face! Any thoughts and help on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance,
Steve

I agree with 99Hugger. The Flowmaster DOESN'T flow the best but by no means does it sound terrible. It is quieter than most of the systems and I know of 3 people in our club that love it just because it is not overdone nor raspy. Sounds pretty kick butt too bad it doesn't flow the best but who cares anything is better than stock!!!

I have lt's/cats/stock mid-pipe/flowmaster, and it doesn't sound very bad at all...I've had many compliments (especially from kids - "holy crap, mister, your car sounds awesome!...Ma I want one when I grow up" )
Everyone disses me for going back to cats in a non-emissions test state, but hey, I've heard the average ls1 with lt's and no cats and let's just stay that they were not pleasing to the ear ("Who keeps farting?... No son, that is your average ls1 with no cats)
The only ones I have heard sound very nice were those with TSP true duals...very nice, but not in my neighborhood!
LT1's, on the other hand, sound great almost regardless of the set up with no cats...

Get true-duals man. I've got no rasp on my setup and it was cheap as hell (just bought the Summit Racing universal X-pipe and welded it up to my long-tubes with Dynomax Bullets dumped). I get nothing but compliments about how it sounds. It's pretty satisfying when you take another LS1 owner with an off-road Y-pipe for a ride in an off-road X-pipe LS1. I always get the same response: "Damn that sounds good, I think I'm going to change over to true duals!"

everyone running the flowmasters what series are you using. I know there are a million someone told me to run the 80 series.? I want a good mellow tone but nothing ridiculous. My dad got a flowmaster muffler swapped on his ws6 and it sounds a million times better than my headers! I have no idea what series he got on though meinke did it.

It's the y-pipe dude. Put some cats in it, get a catted y, or maybe a bullet in the I-pipe.
I hate how LS1's without cats sounds.
