The LS6 intake is vastly superior to the LS1 intake, EGR or not.

In "Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance by Chris Endres" ISBN 1-55788-407-2

He listed a chart that showed the diff between a LS1/LS6 intake on LS1/LS6 heads. These were ported combos, on a 1998 camaro 6 speed, Lunati 222/230 cam,1-3/4 LT headers, no cats, cat back the ported heads had 2.055/1.60 valves

Cyl Head Intake HP TQ

LS1 LS1 406 393
LS1 LS6 423 405
LS6 LS1 413 400
LS6 LS6 435 416

Although this was not your race, nor power output, it gives a good ref to what a LS6 intake can do on the same car.

Its def worth it, another option is a Fast 90/90 setup but thats with cars making serious power. LS6 is much cheaper as well.

As for your race, too many varibles no one knows for sure why the race went that way. I raced a car that is fast, like 100 rwhp more then me. All I had was M/T ET street radials, thats it, I was a lil heavier from a 20 mph roll, he has regular street tires and tried to go from 2nd where as I raced from 1st, I was winning till 4th then he blew by me, just the gearing diff and that I am a better driver gave him a run for his money.
