Default tach help NOW!!

i am wiring a tach in my 1998 trans am. looked everything up. apparently for my year model it's the #34 white wire, BUT it's a gray wire on mine, and it doesn't work... any ideas?

1998 model F-Body's should locate the number 35 pin (in the upper cover) and the wire should be white in color.
