Possible Idle Problem Related to Screenless MAF
When I bought my car it had a screenless MAF on it. Currently I have a small issue with my idle. Periodically the idle will go up to 1500 and down to 400 rpm, and repeat until I give the car some gas. This problem does not occur often, but I wonder if it could be related to the MAF. So, would it be beneficial to buy a new MAF with a screen, or possibly buy a SLP 85mm MAF? They cost about the same. Also, if I added the screened MAF would I lose any power/torque?

That's a tuning issue, you do have H/C afterall. Mine does the same thing, and it's got a bone stock MAF. You could benefit by swapping to an 85mm unit, but I'd suggest a GM 85mm unit, then having it tuned for it. Don't expect to gain a ton of power though, if any, especially over a screenless stocker at your power level. Tuner can also look at the idle hunting problem.

all the screen is there for is to straighten out the airflow from intakes that come in at an angle. the screen in f-body maf's are worthless. i've had no issues with mine since taking it out. i do, on the other hand, have the same idle problem you have. came after the h/c install. i'm pretty sure it's from the mail order tune. i hope to straighten it out with the dyno tune
