Default alternative to expensive qtp cutout controller

QTP makes a cutout controller but it is a little pricey. I just bought their 3" electric cutout works great. Technically wouldn't it be possible to install a firebird headlight controller to control the cutout operation at the push of a a button and not over torque it. It seems like QTP's electronic controller senses resistance in the motor and shuts off just like the headlight motor controller.

that would be a lot of trouble for something simple just stick with the cutout's motor. the firebird ehadlights go by a gear not by resistance
