Default cooler thermostat?

I'm having my car tuned and i figure while im at it i might as well have the fans turned down and throw in a coller thermostat...

is it worth it? and should i run the 160 or the 180 one?

I don't think "search" is working right now, but if it were, you'd find varying opinions on thermostat temp. Half will say 160, the other 180. I have a 160 in my car and I see operating temps between 177-185*F. Works good for me.

some say the ls1 needs heat, but cooler engines tend to work more effeciently, ever notice how quick the car feels after startup, i gotta 160 but i think either is better than the stock hot one

Don't forget that the cooler your engine is, the longer it will take for your oil to heat up to the proper level. I had my fans recalibrated by my PCM tuner to keep the coolant below 200, and there's a noticeable difference.

I would have fan 1 turn on at 170 and shut off at 165 then fan 2 turn on at 185 and shut off at 175. I'm probably gonna tune mine to that setup so there's my .02

what's the stock calibration on the fans? Since I can't have my car tuned right away would it hurt it to run a 160 with a stock tune? I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 with 113k miles on the car...
