Default true duals with no balancing pipe

Ok, so everyone's always told me to use an X-pipe or H-pipe when running duals due to the balancing of the exhaust gasses. But I've seen plenty of people running mufflers off the collectors and dumping them. So what negative effects would I see running duals and dumping them before the axle without a cross-over pipe (which helps with transmission and driveline work, not to mention torque-arm clearance!)?

its common on the hardcore strip cars to just run a muffler off the collector with no balance pipe. Its lighter and easy to work on with minimal if any loss of power. Usually the weight savings offsets the small HP loss.

One of the big reasons is sound. An H or X can tune a car to sound really damn good.

The X/H crossover promotes scavenging, which gains low/mid range TQ. Cars that run mufflers right off the collectors are usually track-only cars and are more concerned with upper rpm HP.
