Will turning the MAF sideways affect anything?

Will turning the MAF sideways affect anything? Just got an LS6 MAF and my hood will not close without hitting the top of the MAF. If I twist it to the side will that be ok? I asume it would be fine, but we know what happens when we assume...lol
