Default What sensor controls RPM?

Does anyone know what sensor controls the rpm tach? And the location.

the crank position sensor but if it isnt working properly the car will not run i think its above the starter your tach is controlled by a white wire on the 10 pin in one of the 2 big connectors on the pcm

The car cranks right up. I just took my starter off and discconected the plug and repluged it and still nothing. i will check the white wire.
