Default Shortie headers vs Y pipe

I know Shorty headers arent nearly as great as long tubes yadaydayada. but I need to stay smog legal. Should I get Y pipe with hi flo cats or Shorty headers first? Or should i just skip the aftermarket Y pipe? btw im getting the shorties because they look better and sound better than those fugly manifolds, if i lived anywhere else i'd get LT's. Smog Sucks

The manifolds on the 2000-2002 arent as restrictive as the 98-99 ones so I would say if you are going that route you will gain more from the high flow cats first but to really see any real gain you will need to do both, shorty headers and hi flows, at the same time.

I heard the stock Y isn't really that restrictive though. Yes there's a flat spot under the driver's side but it's also wider so there's not really any restriction, it just changes shape. But You should at least get after market cats, might as well go with the whole catted Y setup since it's usually a better deal then getting and installing them seperate

I know your pain dude. I had the flat piece of my stock y replaced. Any decent muffler shop should be able to do that. I went with shorties aswell so I would not have to deal with the smog police.

I went along with shorties, y-pipe, hi-flow cats, B&B cat-back, and eventually a cut-out.
Maybe not in that order....but for what it's worth, I've had no regrets w/ my set up.

Thats basically what my set up will be, untill i can afford a cam swap. What kind of gains will i see with Shorties+Y pipe+ high flow cats+ cut out?

Yeah--best gains will be as said...shorts,y,hi-flo cats,c/out,and a good catback.[you should really think long and hard about getting lt's though]
