Default Can I run a belt around the alt, water pump, and crank only?

Ls6 in an odd road application. I have a short block I'm slowly trying to assemble. I'll only be running the belt around the crank, water pump and alternator. Can I do that or do I need a tension er? I don't have a alternator bracket, a bracket with no wheel is $25 a wheeled one is $75. trying to save some $$

You have to remember that the water pump is not turning in the same direction as the crank. You would not be able to run it like a Older V-belt setup. An idler / tensioner is needed to be in place to allow the belt to run up high on the passenger side then under the water pump and then over the alternator (idler may be needed here also) before returning to the crank.
There are a few manufactor and sponser here taht market system to work for what you need, S&P, ATS and a few others, but most of them will cost you some $$$.
