Default How to remove LS1 Balancer 99 FRC C5

I'm tearing down my LS1 and all I lack to remove the crank is the balancer. I have the center bolt out but my balancer puller only works on balancers with bolts holes to grab with. My balancer is stock but it has been keyed as well (twin turbo application). Can I not gently tap it loose with a 2x4 and sledge around the perimeter?

Get a set of 3 hook center attach pullers. You will see the three square tabs in the center area of the balancer. Insert the hooks and turn it to meet the square tabs. Screw away!

As far as beating it off (keep your mind out of the gutter!) I highly suggest against that! Have you ever seen how little finess is required to true a crank? Since I have seen that in person you will never see a hammer anywheres near a crank in my shop!
