Default Catalytic Conv. Question

Ive been hearing this rattling type noise, when im going say around 50 to 60 mph and i step on it a bit.

My friend at work was telling me, it could be 1 of my catalytic converter's that's messed up. Is this the problem???

Also, could this throw off my 02 Sensor's or no???

If the cat is broken apart inside it could rattle. If you have a scanner you can graph the os sensors bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 1 sensor 2(bank 2 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 2). Same bank front and rear sensor. If the two sensors wave pattern the same the cat is burned through or broken apart. If the front sensor (sensor 1) waves up and down and the rear sensor (sensor 2) is flat lined than the cat is oprating normally. if you have a 2000 -2002 camaro/firebird gm extanded the cat warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles.

if your cat is going it can almost sound like a rod knock, a little louder though, and only usually at certain parts of the rev range regardless of vehicle speed.

been there done that.. cheap magnaflow cat ebay job.. cut them off.. gutted em and welded em back in for the visual

Well it was throwing a code, so i got it checked at AutoZone. They sent me to some muffler shop, but the guy's scanner was broken. So i couldnt get it checked at the time. I will do that though, gonna go to other shops around here. Yeaa it does seem to rattle at various speeds but i hear it alot when im going that speed.

Yeaa, i wanna do a new exhaust system so i might be going after some Magnaflow Hi-Flow cats. I dont want the system to be too loud, after i put on Pacesetter LT's.
