I remember when Katrina hit and the first big fuel price spike occurred. There were constantly reports on the news with mechanics seeing increased business because of fuel system failures. I remember one night on the FOX 10 o'clock news, they interviewed a mechanic who cut open a customer's fuel filter and squeezed the filter inside the metal case. Water and dirt poured out. Pretty disgusting. The mechanic said these issues were up 25% at his shop because people were running their tanks lower because they didn't want to fill up at the gas pump, causing a big increase in clogged fuel filters and failed fuel pumps at his shop. It's not a coincidence. The facts don't lie.

I've read somewhere on here before that the bucket holds around 2 gallons to try and keep the fuel around the pump and keep it cool.. So when your light comes on, you have around 2 gallons left in there..
I'm like others though and usually fill up at the 1/4 mark.. better safe than sorry..

It's not like the gas fairy comes and removes it from your tank just because you don't run it to E.....
Only difference is that you are dropping the gas to a lower level and causing your pump to have less media to cool itself and disperse heat... Pumps are designed to have gas around them to cool. You may get away with running it to E for a while, but it'll catch up to you in the end.
