Default Valve cover removal help

I was getting ready to remove my intake to paint it. I was thinking about painting the valve covers to match. I had a couple questions.

1. Do I need to drain the oil from the car?
2. Will removing the valve covers make a mess?
3. Do I need a new set of gaskets?

Thanks for you help.

no worries . though if you do remove the intake for painting . be sure nothing falls in the intake runners in the head . there are some small clips on the bottom of some . you can get some shipping tape and tape the runners just to be safe .

You dont have to replace the gaskets, but considering the price (fairly cheap from any autoparts store) why not replace the gaskets while they're off, then you know they are new and wont have to do it anytime in the near future.
