Default Any tricks to getting discounts @ GM dealerships for parts?!?

I need to pick up a powersteering cooler for my Ws6. Its ~$175 & $107 online at gmpartsdirect.com, the problem is that i need it TODAY!

So as mentioned, is there anyway to get a parts discount at GM that anyone knows of?!

Buy the one from the dealer. ask what the return policy is, if you can return it get the one from gm parts direct and give the dealer that one. Or if you get to know the parts manager like I did have him buy the part with his discount and and pay him for it.

^ lol i was thinking about doing that but I'm afraid the packaging wouldnt be the same between the two, then I'd definatly be screwed & stuck with 2 of the same parts....

And thanks 91Transam, i wouldnt have guessed!

Thanks for the tips guys, lol @ 98 transam...

When i used to own my Mr2 (years ago), Toyota would give me 15-35% discounts on parts (depending on type, i.e. body, mechanical, electrical) because i was in the system as being in the "mr2 club," or something like that. Just didnt know if GM had something comperable.

Best thing is is a job you get part at like cost or a little over cost. Good deals.

Or find the AcDelco distubitor in your area and tell them you work at a the dealership and you will pay cash. Good deals there to. Less than what the dealers pay.

Friend of mines last name is Sears - he calls ahead to see if it's in stock, then asks them to put it aside and picks it up. He says sometimes they give him a lower price without even asking. Too funny.

Just know the people. The parts manager at the Pontiac dealer here knows my old auto teachers, and he hooks up all the students and former students. I just got a oil sending unit for $51 after tax, when normal is like 69 or 70 something.

Are you a student anywhere? If you are, tell them that.

Or ask for a "cash playaz discount." Maybe he'll pocket the money and give you the part

Become friends with the guys that work there and get all your parts from them. BS with them for a little bit if it's not busy, then just ask them if they can cut you a break on the price and they'll earn you as a customer in the future. At dealerships there are several different pricing brackets for various classes of customers (from the first timer that walks in off the street to the guy that does $100k+ a year with you) and it's easy to choose which bracket you price the person with. Good/friendly/frequent customers get the best prices. Usually employee price is cost+5% unless you are management.
If you are going to buy there a lot, you might consider filling out a parts & service credit application and open an account with them. It is free, gives you preferred pricing, and you don't have to pay that day

At my dealership, I just say I'm part of the MFBA and they usually knock quite a bit off the total.

simple, tell them about the online pricing and have them match it; it also helps when you spend more than 5k/year in parts

I say I'm from another dealership.. that usually earns me money off right away although its not going to get you the best price. Parts have a pretty huge markup. Like 35%, and usually the parts guy can give you a discount but doesnt want to.. so there is room to move a lot.. but most people dont know it.

I have found BSing with the parts guys and buying from them for awhile works. I get a slight discount now which is nice.
