Cam retsining plate pinhole mod?
I've been told by a mechanic who builds racing cars from the ground up that drilling two really small holes in the LS1 cam retaining plate does help to lubricare the cam and crank gears, which normally do not benefit from abundant lubrication. He says this is done to some racing LS1 engines and that it should be no problem for a daily driver, nor a drop in oil pressure be noticed.
What do you guys know about this?

The GM distributor drive cover requires you drill two .025" holes in the plate. Other than that I don't really thinks it's necessary.
On the other hand, Jesel started machining the retainer plate behind it's beltdrives so that oil gets in behind the plate where the camshaft makes contact. I do think this necessary for any performance application.

Ty. So true. My old cam plate shows the wear pattern they picture there.
Now what they do is three notches, which is different from the pinhole I was told. I do have the double roller from SLP with the Torrington bearing shown. Guess going to do the three notches mod.
