Default rod orientation (on crank)

I am putting together a 98 LS1. I had a local machine shop do the work and he has pressed on my new piston so that the rods face opposite one another on the crank. I have read on here that the rods are not chamfered so orientation (front or rear facing) does not matter. The book I have on LS1 rebuilds clearly states that stock rods should have the flat side of the bolt recievers facing the front of the engine. My pistons have valve reliefs and if I install the rods all facing forward then my pistons on the even side are upside down. So my question is do the rods have a specific orientation or will I be ok turning them opposite?
