Default Bearing Assembly lube

Hey Everyone.

Ive been reading up on how to lube my bearings when building my engine as i will be doing so in the next couple weeks.

Most places use a SAE 30 oil. I can use this, but i thought maybe if i use some Assembly lubricant id be better off?

Im looking to know for the bearing faces (Rods & Mains) and to go on the cam journals.

Thanks!

Sheldon

I use STP oil treatment for my crank and rod install's, its nice and thick. I just completed my first "LS" build, which is a 6.0 liter truck motor. I had trouble priming the oil system, until I did some research here and jacked the back of my car up to submerge the oil pump. I did a lot of cranking on my motor before I build up some oild pressure, and had no problems. I did however use assembly lube for the cam, which was the Comp Cam brand lube. Good luck!!

You would be better off using asembly lube such as made by torco for bearings.Just stop by an auto parts store and ask for a small tube of engine asembly lube.

i have heard oil is fine if crank-up will be shortly after the build. but if the motor is gonna sit a while use the thicker assembly lube.
