Default Piston/rod wear question.

Right now im trying to put back together my motor, I had left all of the pistons in order when i took them apart about a month ago, and when I decided to put everything back together I marked them and started working. In between all of this the garadge was cleaned out and I realize its possible that the box was turned around before I marked them, making the number 1 piston now number 8 and visa versa for all of them. My question is, do the wear marks on the pistons (rods) face eachother, or, do the wear marks come from the rods riding on the crank? If I could get an answer to this then I could tell weather I marked them right, or I marked all of them opposite.

I know its probably hard to follow along but I dont know how to better explain the situation, if anyone has ANY imput at all I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you.
