I have no thermostat now, and my engine takes a while to warm up. I usually run 10w40 Redline, but I think that this might not flow the best with the motor cold. Would 0w40 Mobil 1 be better? What kinda difference would there be in thickness, and oil pressure? I burn no oil now and get very good oil pressure (65 psi cold, 80+ psi WOT, 45-50 psi warm idle). Thanks for any help!

....i beleive the first number in the oil rating is the viscosity when cold....

...A thermostat is a good car part and does not weigh much either.... Suggestion - replace it...

If you want a colder running therm, you can take the housing a part and install a shim where the pin meets the aluminum housing....

...a colder therm will open sooner but unless you turn your cooling fans on earlier, it won't make that much difference... I ended up going back to a stock therm...

Thanks for the tip on the first number in the oil rating. I don't have a thermostat because I have a race Meziere, and there is no provision for a thermostat. I could install an inline thermostat, but the car runs the same temp as it did with a 160 stat, and only takes slightly longer to warm up. It does cool off much faster though.

Yes, the first number in the viscosity shows it's cold cranking abilities, so a 0w40 oil will always flow faster in the cold than a 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, 10w40 and anything higher.

Redline makes a 5w40 now too, you might want to give this a try, it's shown very good oil analysis results. Redline doesn't make any 0w30 or 0w40 oils yet. I would recommend Redline 5w40 over Mobil 1 0w40, since Redline is more shear stable. It's just more costly though.
