Default Low oil pressure when hot***

I took my car to a small autocross event on sunday and after a few runs my oil temp was at 218 and I noticed my idle press was at 19, I shut it down and let it cool back down to 182 (which it where normal temp is for me) and it was at 30 psi at idle (like it normally is), went back on the track and got it up to 6500 rpm and press was at 65, got oil hot again and it would not go over 45 @ 6500 rpm. On my drive home it was normal again?!? Is this normal to drop that low once it gets pretty hot? Coolant temp never went over ~195-200. I use Royal Purple 5w-30 and a WIX filter, 440 RWHP, mods in sig.

as the oil gets hotter it gets thinner (lower viscosity). this makes it flow better in the normal operating range but if its too hot it can get overly thin and cause a drop in pressure. same volume, lower pressure.

Do you have an oil cooler ??

You might want to consider adding a qt of some thicker oil on the day you decide to Auto X. That should help keep the oil from thinning out too much as the temp goes up.

If you don't have an oil cooler you should get one, and that will help keep the oil temps in check and you won't have to worry about running a thicker oil when you race. JMO

x2 a 40w oil when racing might help.

Try Mobil-1 15W-50 for autocross events. It is designed for hi-temp use.
