Default Crank Differences

Is there any differences between cranks in different year LS1's. I read they changed the main bearing tolerances in 2001. Did this change the crank? I've got a 99 that needs a crank and want to make sure any year will work.

Identical, production crankshaft main journal diameter is 2.558-2.559. Bearing clearance crank is .0008-.0021. Rod bearing bore diameter is 2.224-2.225 and bearing clearance is .0009-.0025. The 5.3 liter engine in the front drive SS has a 30mm shorter snout, I think.

Thanks. So when they say they tightened the tolerances on the 2001 & 2002 they used the same crank and different bearings?

Numbers I referenced were from a GM marine manual on these engines. I keep clearances @ .0015 on rods and no more than .002 on mains. As long as the crankshaft and big end rod journals are round, you will be fine.

i think the reluctor wheel was different for 97-98 cars than the 99 +. i noticed on the 2 98 cranks i have, the 2 wheels are pressed totally together, and the 99 crank i have is spaced about .0625 apart, and the 99 had more balance holes in it. not that the holes matter, but would i have to run a 99+ crank sensor with the 99 crank?
