Default Thinking of switching prc5.3's for afr...

I'm thinking about selling my prc 2.5 5.3 heads that have been milled .030 for a set of afr heads... I would probably send them out to tony to have them hand ported and all that great stuff. But my question is will I really see a gain for worth another $1000? My car pulls hard with the prcs, but down 430's on a mean mustang dyno... I just feel like the car has some more in it.. The car has a ms4 in it with a forged bottom end and every bolt on possible... Maybe i'm just asking for to much out of the little 346?

Well the AFR's out of the box and milled for compression should give you a boost. Tony's handy work should improve you mid and peak numbers. Worth an extra grand ?? Not sure. You could always jump on the TFS 215 bandwagon and get more power without the need for custom portwork. Call Ron at Vengeance. He can set you up properly.

You could also talk with TSP about the gains of upgrading to their new PRC 215 heads. They are the newest cathedral port offering to hit the market and are worth a look.

We've done this test (5.3's vs AFR 205's with a bit smaller camshaft) on the engine dyno. Give me a call or e-mail and I will forward you the graphs

Thanks for the referral, Patrick.

Your talking about a lot more than $1000 for the AFR top end that Mamo has enhanced.

205's ... like $2150 plus spring upgrade and milling add $200 so they are $2350-$2450

Then to have Tony work them $800-$1200.. better valves add another $150, obviously going to be spinning to 7000 rpms add in $450 for YT UL' rockers.

Lifters $140-$550, head gaskets $70-$160, push-rods $108-$190, coolant, oil, filter...all adds up.

Is it worth the gain?? Thats a personal question that only you can answer

Some guys will spend thousands chasing that last 10-25hp and the more power your making the more expensive it is to make more power.. unless your using a power add of course.. but even then it comes at a price.

Some guys reach a level and are happy with it, realize that making more power will cost almost double what they've already spent and the gains are small and smaller.

At a certain point you realize that more cubic inches is what you need or a turbo and you either resolve to be happy with 450 at the wheels or you start looking at a 408 and up ...LOL

(I've gone from stage 2.5 5.3's to AFR Mamo enhanced 205's on my 347)

Matt you type quick , you werent in here when I started my post...LOL
