Help I think im losing coolant?! (LS6)
I topped of my fluids when i did my oil change about 1500 miles ago.
05 cts-v -LS6
Today the low coolant light went on on startup, and the res tank was alittle below the cold min so i added alittle...
But for the past couple weeks ive had a few ocasions were I smelled alittle coolant from the car after parking in the garage. Especialy after longer trips .
I jacked her up and looked for leaks, drips etc. and took off the cover to see maybe something from the heads or water pump.
Dont see anything obvious ..
What are some coman problem spots on the LS?
Can it be the head gasket at 66k?
waterpump most likely?
I went from a lt1 which was a total nighmare so im new to the ls motor.

is there any coolant left on the ground?
did you check the radiator??
If it is your head gaskets I'd be worried about water locking the engine with coolant but I doubt that's the case here. You might have 'thought' you put enough coolant in there at first but you may have had an air pocket in the coolant system and it worked itself out. I'd keep an eye on the coolant level (and the ground under your car) and see if you are consistently losing coolant.

There is a chemical test that can be done to tell you if there is exhaust gas present in your coolant. NAPA sells it but it is a little pricey so I would just get a local shop to test. A coolant pressure test could be run too....
I bet you have pinhole leak in a heater hose or something if you are not running hot.....
