382 stroker -vs- 346 H/C......
How much more power and torque will a 382 stroker have versus a 346? I am in the process of accumulating parts for a forged 346, and in talking to my local speed shop, I can get a 4" crank for an awesome price, so.... I'm thinking 4" stroke, forged rods and pistons (were gonna do those anyways), LS6 block (3.905 bore) would be a ~384" aluminum motor, for less than $1000 more than the 346 would cost me. How much HP/TQ would the extra ~38" give me, in the real world? nough to justify the extra $$$? Thanks, Shawn

Peak gains will probably not be all that significant. You will have the ability to absorb a little bigger camshaft though, and you will have significantly better low end torque.

usually you will gain about 1hp per cube but that is usually to the motor. so that should be like 25hp or so to the tires. not much but like nip said, you can use a larger camshaft to even gain some more.

I say the peak numbers will be about the same but if its only a grand more I would go for it and enjoy all the extra tq and power under the curve. For a grand you cant miss.

Yea, you won't be impressed by the big end number. It's the numbers under the curve that will impress. Your torque will be right in line with your hp, and that is worth alot. Like others also said, a larger cubic inch cam will make a bigger cam seem smaller. So now you can call Lou and get the G5X-5 and still have the driveability of the X-3 on a H/C car. Oh yea, I also found those specs I PM'd you about a while back.
